We always use effective, proven exercise techniques and programs led by our trained professionals. And we set it all to rockin’ great tunes in our signature choreographed, simple to follow method.

Our newest format is knows as the HIIT Squad. We have integrated our most successful formats into one power workout that you will love! You’ll start by moving your body to the beat of popular, energizing music from around the world using simple steps. We’ll add in resistance exercises using your own body weight, hand weights or kettle bell, and then pull out your mat and drumsticks to experience a tribal core-on-the-floor routine that will bring out your inner drummer! We wrap up the class with a deep stretch and well-deserved relaxation. You bring your own mat and hand weights and/or kettle bell, drumsticks are supplied.

According to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), high-intensity interval training includes exercises performed at 80 to 95 per cent of your maximum heart rate, for anywhere from five seconds to eight minutes. Generally, the shorter the interval, the higher the intensity and vice versa. The work intervals are alternated with periods of complete rest or active recovery performed at 40 to 50 per cent of your maximum heart rate, lasting for about the same duration.

HIIT is highly adaptable for your fitness level and goals. It can be performed on bikes, treadmills and rowing machines (cardio HIIT), or by using your own bodyweight to perform a wide variety of exercises (bodyweight HIIT).

HIIT has been shown to improve fitness, cardiovascular health, cholesterol profiles and insulin sensitivity, which helps stabilize blood glucose or sugar levels. HIIT also reduces fat – both abdominal and deep while maintaining muscle mass or, in less active individuals, increasing it. HIIT Works!

Drumming is a great workout for your brain and actually can make you smarter because when you drum you access your entire brain. Research shows that the physical transmission of rhythmic energy to the brain actually synchronizes the left and right hemispheres. So, when the logical left hemisphere and the intuitive right hemisphere of your brain begin to pulsate together, your inner guidance system – or intuition – becomes stronger.

Stretching keeps muscles flexible, strong, and healthy. We need flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles for activity, they are weak and unable to extend all the way. That puts you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage.

Regular stretching keeps muscles long, lean, and flexible, and this means that exertion won’t put too much force on the muscle itself. Healthy muscles also help maintain balance problems and avoid falls, an every growing concern as we age.

Ready to Move?

We have two locations offering HIIT Squad starting this fall: Port Perry on Monday evenings, and Beaverton on Saturday mornings. In Port Perry, you can become a part of the HIIT Squad at 5:00 pm or 6:30 pm starting October 21st. Beaverton HIIT Squad members will meet at 9:00 am – please pre-register for this location. Can’t commit to the whole program? No problem, you can Drop In to any class.
